Oceans figures

PrintAn infography that summarizes the current state of our oceans, with some alarming figures.

If the oceans are the source of all life, it may no longer be so very soon: the modern fishing (or rather “overfishing”) put the catch level at 2.5 times what would be necessary to species regeneration.

infography : ocean ressources

Other figures:

  • for 1 billion people, fish is the main source of protein.
  • 95,000 square miles of ocean are “dead zones” due to agricultural pollution
  • The annual revenues from fish trade is $ 25 billion, including 10 for sole tuna. But it is estimated that the mismanagement of fisheries resources have lost $ 2.2 trillion of over 30 years. The calculation is quickly made: 750 billion gain vs to 2.2 trillion loss, not only we destroy the resource, but this is not even profitable!
